New Students

Thank you for enrolling your child with us at Charters Towers School of Distance Education.

This page contains some important information on how new enrolments for 2024 will occur.

OFFICE HOURS

SCHOOL HOLIDAY HOURS

The school office closes 4:00pm Friday 8th December, 2023.

The office opens again at 8:00am Monday 22nd January, 2024.

STANDARD HOURS

Normal office hours are 8:00am - 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.

We are closed on weekends, school holidays and public holidays.

KEY DATES

The school year starts on Monday 22nd January, 2024.

Lessons for Year 11 and 12 students will start on 22nd January (week 1).

Lessons for Prep – Year 6 students will start on Tuesday 23rd January (week 1).

Lessons for Year 7 - 10 students will start on Wednesday 24th January (week 1).

Note: Do not stress if your child cannot start lessons on the above dates. We have a large influx of enrolments at the beginning of the year and it is impossible to complete all enrolments before lessons commence.

BEFORE YOU START LESSONS

ACCOUNT RESET

Distance Education is a bit different to a mainstream school. It's not simply a matter of arriving on the first day and going into a classroom. Because we are online, your child will need to log in with their EQ (Education Queensland) account to access lessons. Students have one EQ account and when they enrol at a new state school that account is transferred from the previous state school. This can take a few days. If your child is enrolling at a state school for the first time, it also takes a few days for the account to be created. Once the account has been transferred, their password will need to be reset.

You will receive an email from Sophie Baron with your student's new log in details.

MANDATORY INDUCTIONS

Prep – Year 6

You will receive information about booking a primary induction session, either by phone or by email.

Year 7 – 12

You will receive an email with a link to an induction. Inductions happen daily and information about induction times will be in the email. You will not receive this email on the first day of school (22nd January). It takes a few days for EQ accounts to come across from previous schools. You should receive the induction email by the end of week 2 (2nd February).

The induction is compulsory and you will need to complete an induction within 5 school days of receiving the email. Failing to do this will result in your enrolment application being cancelled.

CURRICULUM

Some of you may receive 2024 curriculum over the holidays, but most of you will receive your curriculum during Term 1. You can still start lessons prior to receiving curriculum, as long as you have completed your induction. You will receive a curriculum box each semester.

EMAILS

As we are a distance education school, most of the school's correspondence is via email. Please make it a habit to check your emails regularly. Also, some of our emails occasionally go to junk and spam folder, so please make it a habit to check those inboxes as well.

Please be patient with us while we try our best to have your child ready to start at the beginning of the 2024 school year.

Have a wonderful school holiday break and we look forward to seeing you in 2024!
