“Starting secondary school is an exciting transition for a child. There will be new learning and social opportunities that will allow your child to further explore and identify their strengths, passions and interests. There will be differences in routines and new relationships to develop with a range of classroom teachers, other staff members and peers." Queensland Government Department of Education, 15th January 2021.

This term, Year 6 students and home tutors get the exciting opportunity to participate in the CTSDE Year 6 into Year 7 Transition Program (PDF, 151KB).

What is this transition program about?

This program is designed to help Year 6 students and their families develop familiarity and confidence with the Secondary School routines and new 'ways of working', and start building connections with the Year 7 CTSDE staff and peer group.

How will this transition program run?

This online transition program will run most weeks on Friday from 9:00-9:30am, culminating in a full day program on Wednesday, 1st December.

Every session will be run online through the Year 6 eLearn/Blackboard course - Blackboard Collaborate Ultra program. Session links are contained in the attached program, or you can just search the Bb Ultra session scheduler for 'transition' and join in from there.

Each session will be recorded so that you can view them at your own convenience if you are unable to attend the live sessions.

What will the sessions be about?

Sessions will cover different topics each week, and will be presented by Year 7 teachers, Heads of Department or the Junior Secondary Deputy Principal.

Topics include; an introduction to each Year 7 subject, explanations of how Year 7 works, overviews of timetables and schedules, explanations of how to submit work, who you can talk to in order to get help, and much more!

Is participation in these sessions mandatory?

Participation in the transition program is optional, although very highly recommended – regardless of whether you will be staying at CTSDE for Year 7 or moving to another school. (If you are planning on moving to another school, you are welcome to contact that school to inquire about any transition programs they are offering.)

What else do you need to know?

The first session begins on Friday, 15th October at 9:00am. Please bring along a pen and notebook to take notes.

If you have any questions about the CTSDE Year 6 into Year 7 Transition program, please contact either Miss Kate Ruthenberg – Year 7 Head of Department – on 47 546 802 or kruth22@eq.edu.au or Mr Navdeep Singh – Junior Secondary Deputy Principal – on 47 546 888 or nsing55@eq.edu.au.
